CHECK IN
You will choose your category and grade level when you check in. Assignments are first come/first served.  To prevent open judge slots, we have adopted an onsite assignment method. At this time, you will receive your list of judging assignments for the day. You should peruse the Categories pages and look at the rubric guidelines found there to familiarize yourself with the descriptions and assessment guidelines for each category.

All projects are scored in the Atlanta Public Schools Technology Competition website.  You will be provided with an iPad for this purpose.  Login instructions and judging process overview will be provided during the judge orientation meeting.

JUDGING
Promptly at 9:00 am, judging starts. You have a strict 15 minute window to judge each project. You will receive breaks for refreshments, restroom break, regrouping, etc. throughout the morning.  Lunch will also be provided. Some categories may have to continue after lunch until all projects in the category have been judged.

All projects will be judged by the following:
  • Originality—Was the entry original, creative, and imaginative in content and implementation?
  • Clarity—Was the student presentation to the judge clear? (Nervousness will not count against the student)
  • Documentation—Did the student receive and document all required permissions?
  • Appropriateness—Was the technology/software used appropriately matched?
  • Design—Does the overall design support the project purpose?

At the time of the judging, students will be required to:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the software as it relates to the project.
  2. Explain the various aspects of the creation of the project.
  3. Defend their choice of software for the project.
  4. Answer judges' questions about the project.

Projects are evaluated by the judges to determine the best project in that category. The judges use several instruments for making their evaluation. Judges will provide each student with a feedback form listing strengths, weaknesses, and suggestions for each project. Actual scoring materials will NOT be released. All decisions by the judges are FINAL.

FINISH TIME
The last judge slot for a judge team is determined by the number of projects assigned to the judge team. Some teams will finish in an hour or two while others will finish right before lunch.

HOW TO JUDGE PROJECTS
During Judge's Orientation at 8:15 am, you and your judging partner will each receive an iPad.  Atlanta Public Schools uses the same rubrics that the State Technology Competition uses.  Comments must be provided for each project.  This will help you break any ties and provides feedback on the project. You and your judging partner will judge ALL projects in a grade/category.

RESULTS
As you complete the judging and ranking of a grade/category in the system,  your first, second, and third place results will automatically be highlighted in GREEN.  After seeing all projects in a given grade/category group, you and your judging partner will double-check the first, second, and third place projects according to your interview and project assessment.

After your team has confirmed first, second, and third place winners,  please return to the Judge's Room and return your iPads to the Results Manager. Ties are NOT allowed for first place, so please ensure there are no ties for first place. The Results Manager will go over your results with you and any members of your team to check for discrepancies or problems with the results.
